Our Music

Our main concert programme during the year consists of a programme of Christmas music in early December and a more classical programme on Good Friday. The concerts take place at St. Michaels Parish Church in Newquay, a magnificent church with wonderful acoustics, which was refurbished after a fire a few years ago. We performed regularly at Newquay Wesley Church on East Street in the past. Other venues have included Trerice Manor (National Trust property near Newquay), Eden Project and various hotels in the area.

We present a programme of lighter music in June, often with guest artists, sometimes other choirs or musical groups.

As can be seen from the list of previous concerts, the composers of works performed vary from Bach to Karl Jenkins, and the Christmas concerts often contain carols from around the world to add additional interest to the programme.

For the Good Friday concert we engage semi-professional artists to perform the solo roles, and often we have an orchestra in addition to the church organ to accompany us.

We are very fortunate to have as our President, Sir David Willcocks, who was born in and spent his early days in the town. We are therefore always pleased when he returns to the area and leads workshops for us. In return, as often as possible we like to go to the Royal Albert hall and join in "The Really Big Chorus" under his baton to sing Messiah. We always enjoy ourselves on these forays to the capital, making the most of our weekends away!
